Ultrasound imaging (sonography) uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of the body’s internal structures. Unlike X-ray or CT, ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation, making it a safe and non-invasive diagnostic tool. How should I prepare for my ultrasound?

Preparation varies by exam type. Abdominal ultrasounds typically require fasting for 6-8 hours before your appointment. Pelvic and obstetric ultrasounds may require a full bladder. Vascular and thyroid ultrasounds generally require no special preparation. We'll provide specific instructions when you schedule.

 

How long does an ultrasound take?

Most ultrasound exams take 20-45 minutes depending on the area being examined and the complexity of the case. You can return to normal activities immediately afterward.

Will the ultrasound be uncomfortable?

Ultrasounds are generally painless. You'll feel light pressure from the transducer (probe) moving across your skin. A water-based gel is applied to improve image quality. The gel warmer on our Samsung RS85 ensures comfortable temperature throughout your exam.

What is S-Detect™ and how does it help?
S-Detect™ is Samsung's AI-based technology that automatically detects and classifies suspicious lesions in thyroid (per K-TIRADS/RU55/ATA guidelines) and breast (per BI-RADS® standards). It provides consistent, accurate results with automatic reporting, helping diagnose patients with confidence and reducing operator variability.
When will I receive my results?

Our board-certified radiologists review all ultrasounds and typically provide reports to your physician within 24 hours. In urgent cases, preliminary results may be available the same day.

Can ultrasound detect cancer?
Ultrasound is excellent for detecting masses, nodules, and abnormal tissue in many organs including thyroid, breast, liver, kidneys, and reproductive organs. While ultrasound can identify suspicious findings, definitive cancer diagnosis typically requires tissue sampling (biopsy).
